Bald Rock Trail – Camden Hills, Maine

We left Mount Desert Island to explore the Maine coastline; crossing the bridge back to the mainland you get barraged with lobster, lobster, and more lobster.  We knew these were generally going to be the same as the lobster we had before so we drove past dozens of lobster pounds.  We finally stopped at a place not even listed on the map that offered smoked mussels and grilled lobster (it is at 323 Bar Harbor Rd).  Now that was worth stopping!!

We had reservations at the Bay Leaf Cottages for a night inside and a place to shower!!  Amanda wanted to squeeze in a little hike before dinner and the host recommended visiting Camden Hills State Park and specifically Bald Rock Trail cited in 2012 by Departures Magazine as one of the “most scenic walks” in the world.

The trail meandered through the woods and then gave way to a beautiful view on the top of the 1,200 foot summit. We wandered around the peak and discovered two  shelters to explore. Later, we visited the beautiful Cellar Door Winery at the base of the mountain and became obsessed with their balsamic vinegar.
