NYE in Tarpon Springs

Amanda’s Aunt Jane and Uncle Dave are travelling a similar route as us in their motor home and have also been relaxing and enjoying the winter in the warmth of Florida’s Gulf Coast. We borrowed a car and drove north to Tarpon Springs to join them for New Years Eve. We arrived in time to watch the shrimp boil, drinking a beer or three, and relax with Dave and Jane and their campground neighbors for North Carolina Jack and Patty.

The boil: Shrimp, sausage, corn and potatoes cooked by Dave and Jack, enjoyed by all on a newsprint covered picnic table.

Happy New Year!!

The town of tarpon springs was a short bike ride away, so after a hearty breakfast using the leftovers from the boil we set off to the town on bikes borrowed from Jane and Dave. We cycled around the town in circles before we figured out where the main (touristy) street was and from there set off on foot.

Barnacle covered bike and sea sponges were popular at the shops.

Back at the motorhome Dave set us up with their inflatable kayak and we paddled back towards the town stopping when the boat traffic got too heavy.

The greyhounds love attention almost as much as they love naps.

We met Daves Mom for dinner and overlooking the marina by the bridge to Tarpon Springs. The goofballs needed a photo shoot with the jaws style props.

We ended the night by walking the greyhounds to the entrance for a photo-op by the pineapple shaped palm tree. Dakota (the black and white one) does not look thrilled.

After a breakfast with David’s family we all left together; the motorhome headed west in a cloud of leaves and Amanda and I back to Fort Myers. We are ready to be back on the road.
