Biking Out of Tampa On The Suncoast Trail

With our brains in a fog from the parade celebration the day prior we packed slowly trying to figure out what its like being cycle tourist again. The bikes were tuned, bags were packed, and stomachs full from a group trip to Chipotle. We set off riding north up the Riverwalk and then through industrial section out of Tampa, 40 miles later we rolled into the gated Jay B. Starkey Wilderness Park and found ourselves a sweet campsite!!

Due to our brain-fog we forgot to take any photos of the entire day… 🙁

Out of our park campsite we enjoyed several miles of park multi-use trail leading to 35 miles of car-free bliss on the Suncoast Bike Trail. Eventually the trail came to an end and we rode the shoulder the remaining 20 to Jeanna & Kerry Smith’s house.  Kerry & Jeanna are avid cyclist and showed us their planned tour route, fed us incredible food, and sent us to bed in plush comfort.

Bike trails for miles!

The following day Jeanna & Kerry suited up to ride us for about 20-25 miles.  It was a treat to have a personal escort out of town and enjoy the company of other cyclists for a snack together.  Our ride went as far as daylight would take us and after considering our budget we stealth camped in Fanning Springs on a horse/bike trail.

A very lonely, long ride on US-19.
